Mary Caroline Dolan Rhoades was born in Waukegan, IL in 1932 to Mary Elizabeth Debevic Dolan and Carter Harrison Dolan. During her early years, she lived in Joliet, IL where she graduated with honors from Joliet Township High School. There she was active in Glee Club, Tri-Hi-Y, Future Homemakers of America, girl's volleyball and, during her senior year, served as Secretary of the National Honor Society at Joliet Township High, graduating in 1950.

In 1953, Mary wed Harlan L. Rhoades of Tuscola, IL and the couple moved to Sanford with their young family in 1959. Mary enjoyed athletics, and tennis played a prominent place in her life. She played in the early 1970's at Emma Spencer's courts in Sanford, became a member of Bayhead Racquet Club in 1978 and then joined Lake Mary Tennis Center when it opened in 2001. She played team tennis in the Central Florida Women's Amateur Invitational Tennis League until her retirement from tennis at age 75.

Mary was a life-long member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church. There, she was an active member of St. Mary's Chapter, the Senior Choir, and the Altar Guild. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Harlan L. Rhoades, and is survived by her sister Christine Clink, of Joliet, IL; her two children Judith Edminster of Toledo, OH and Brian Rhoades of Groveland, FL; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held to honor her life at 1:30 pm, April 18, 2018 at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 401 S. Park Ave., Sanford, FL.
