Mary Jean Meyer Maskolunas was born on July 11, 1946, in Lexington, Kentucky to Jean and Jack Meyer. She passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones.
Mary moved with her family to Maitland, Florida in 1959. She graduated from St. Margaret Mary Catholic School in Winter Park and Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando. As a young adult, she trained for and worked as a Dental Assistant. She later transitioned into a thirty-year career in Government Civil Service.
Mary met George Bocock and shared 24 devoted years with him. They made regular trips to Virginia to visit his family. They shared the love of their three-and-a-half-pound Yorkie, Gidget. Mary was a little jealous because Gidget favored George more since he fed and walked her. You could find them at the Moose Lodge every weekend with George playing pool and Mary talking and dancing with friends. Mary especially enjoyed their annual trips to Madeira Beach.
Mary fiercely loved her family, and took delight in celebrating their special occasions (baptisms, birthdays, graduations, weddings) as often as she could. Whenever there was a gathering, Mary was at the center of it being "the life of the party!" Her nieces and nephews loved how she spoiled them and let them do things their parents would not. Although future Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving gatherings will be so different without her, stories of Mary will keep her fun-loving spirit alive.
Mary's hobbies included reading, crafting, especially making and wearing jewelry, and playing games. Blackjack was her game of choice on family card nights, and she won frequently. She loved going to Curves, not so much to exercise but to see and talk to the wonderful people there.
When Mary was first diagnosed with cancer 10 years ago, George was by her side, caring for all of her needs. With her recent reoccurrence of cancer, George redoubled his efforts to care for her and keep her comfortable, with the support of her family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Jean and Jack Meyer. She is survived by her partner George Bocock, her brothers, Gil Meyer (Mary) and Dick Meyer (Cheryl), her sisters, Anne Meyer Lyden and Beth Meyer Hoffman (Paul). Mary's nieces and nephews, Townley, J.G., Christy, Kari, Ryan, Jennifer, Patrick, Timothy, Amanda, Sarah, and Adam, plus her eighteen great-nieces and nephews, will hold her memory in their hearts.
On Tuesday, May 11 at 11am, the Reverend Paul Henry will celebrate a Mass of Resurrection at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs. A Graveside Service at Glen Haven Memorial Cemetery in Winter Park will immediately follow.
The family of Mary Jean Meyer Maskolunas invites you to leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall created in her loving memory.
