Obituary

Mary Anne Haury (nee Higgins), 93, of Orlando, Florida passed away the evening of January 28, 2025, with her family by her side. Mary Anne was born to the late Frank and Ida Mae Higgins on March 31, 1931, in Laurel, Mississippi. She was a proud alumna of the University of Chattanooga, from where she graduated in 1953 with a B.A. in home economics. In 1956, she married the love of her life, the late Richard "Dick" Lee Haury, Sr., in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Following her marriage and while her husband was serving in the U.S. Army, Mary Anne worked in the maps department for a national intelligence service. When her husband began a career developing airports across the world, Mary Anne joined her husband traveling the world and became a lifelong lover of travel with her husband, from Alaskan cruises to walking the streets of Jerusalem. In her later years, she spent summers in Bryson City, North Carolina, in a house that her husband designed for her and their growing family to enjoy in the Great Smokey Mountains near where they had spent their honeymoon and where their family had enjoyed many vacations when their children were young. Above all, she loved her family and was the glue that kept the family together. From being a room mother and assistant librarian at her children's schools to taking, with her husband, her grandchildren on an international trip when they were growing up, Mary Anne was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Mary Anne was a member of the Orlando Country Club and was an active member of her church community of St. James Catholic Cathedral, where, over the years, she was active in women's groups and bible studies. Her family remembers and takes strength in her strong faith, which was a pillar of the family. Her family also remembers her love of reading, bridge, and cooking.
Mary Anne is survived by her four children Susan (Phil), Richard, Lisa (David), and Timothy and seven grandchildren Christina (Matthew), Melissa (Douglas), Philip, Susannah (William), Richard, Mary Clara, and Emily. She is also survived by her sisters June and Linda (Ron), her brothers-in-law Joseph and Lester, and her sisters-in-law Miriam and Barbara (R.B.).
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the Cathedral of St. James, 215 N. Orange Ave., Orlando, Florida 32801 with internment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando. Family will be receiving friends following the mass.
