Mary �Joye� Burns, 90, of St. Petersburg, FL passed away peacefully at Community Hospice in St. Augustine, FL on August 23, 2016. Born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, she attended Westminster College in PA. During her senior year her family vacationed in St. Petersburg over the holidays and she met her future husband at a dance at the Vinoy hotel. They were married in 1951 and after a few years of moving around for his medical and military career, moved back to St. Petersburg, FL to raise their family.
She was a loving wife and mother, a National Master Bridge player, loved to play golf, travel and entertain. She volunteered in the community for many years.
She is survived by her children: Steven Patrick Burns and his wife Debra Hempel of St. Petersburg, FL, Thomas Michael Burns of St. Augustine, FL, and Cathleen Ann Burns of St. Augustine, FL; her grandson Keto Little Burns (great granddaughter Nyah Burns) of St. Augustine, FL and grandson Andrew Joseph Burns-Short of Melbourne, FL; her sister Jane Louise Tucker, niece Laura Jean Beck and nephew Arthur Geary Beck, all of Crossville, TN.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Francis Joseph Burns, Jr., MD, and her son, Francis Joseph Burns III.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Raphael�s Catholic Church 1376 Snell Isle Blvd. NE on Saturday, August 27th, at 11:00am.
Reception to follow at St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
Interment will be private.
