Obituary

After a long, full life, Martha Louise (Lamb) Sibert, Martie, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2017 at her apartment home in Winter Park, Florida. Born the second child and only daughter of William O. and Clara Belle Lamb on May 25, 1937, in Statesville, NC, she grew up in Marietta, GA and attended Osborn High School.
Upon graduation from Osborne High School, Martie attended beauty school and worked as a beautician and manicurist. Two years later she decided to apply to be an Eastern Airlines stewardess. In July of 1958, she met Jim Sibert at a softball game at Georgia Tech. Even though she left for training in Miami shortly after, they continued to see each other through the fall and were married in Houston, Texas on December 5, 1958. Jim finished his senior year at Georgia Tech and Martie continued to fly with Eastern until January 1960 when she could no longer hide that she was pregnant with twins. Thomas Walter and Steven James were born on May 26, 1960, one day after Martie's 23rd birthday.
After Jim's graduation from Georgia Tech, as he began his career as a civil engineer, the couple established their family life, combining Jim's no-nonsense work ethic with Martie's fun- loving, positivity and sweetness. They spent 4 years moving around the south and southeast; daughter Katrina Leight was born in Atlanta on January 28, 1963. In 1965, after Jim was offered a position with Hensel Phelps, the family relocated to Greeley, Colorado. Tonya Jo was born there on November 7, 1966.
Martie began trying her hand at various arts and crafts once her children were established in school; and in 1970 Martie began her career with Mary Kay Cosmetics. The Sibert family relocated to Monument, Colorado in 1976, where Martie and Jim eventually designed and built their ultimate dream home. But Mary Kay was the second great love of Martie's life; during her 37 very happy and productive years with the company, she reached her career-long dream and the pinnacle of company success as a National Sales Director. May Kay allowed Martie and Jim to travel extensively around the world. As a self-described person, Martie's personality thrived in the Mary Kay company culture that not only nurtured her naturally positive spirit, but also supported her family goals, her financial well-being, boosted her self-confidence, and definitely helped to solidify her spiritual ideals. She and Jim enjoyed both the seminars and the many trips to amazing places around the world- Greece, Spain, Turkey, Russia, Scandinavia, Egypt, Israel, the Philippines, China, Japan, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Alaska, the Caribbean. Though they traveled extensively once their children were grown, the couple lived in Monument until Jim's death in 2006. In 2008 Martie relocated to Florida to live with Tonya.
Martie is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Jim Sibert. She is survived by her sons, Thomas Walter Sibert (wife Joy), Stephen James Sibert (and wife Terry) and her daughters Katrina Leigh (partner Alison) and Tonya Sibert Mellen (husband Scott); Grandchildren: Kaitlyn Mallory Trugman (husband Micah), Kiri Nicole Hood (husband James), Kevin Sibert (wife Miranda), Kristopher Sibert (wife Katie Jo), Kyle Sibert, Klarissa Whipple (husband David) and Kristina Sibert, Stephanie Sibert, James Sibert, Amy Sibert, Emilee Hartley (husband Jon) and Abigail Sibert, Jessica Mellen, Miranda Mellen, and Alicia Mellen. Great Grandchildren: Mischa Trugman, Asher Trugman, Jared Trugman, Reagan Sibert and MacKensie Sibert. The family would like to acknowledge and extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of the wonderful friends, family and colleagues who have sent their messages and cards filled with warm thoughts and prayers in this time of loss. A memorial reception will be held at the home of Tonya Mellen on September 29, 2017 from 5-8 PM (1700 Walnut Avenue, Winter Park, Florida). Memorial Service will also be held at the Ascent Church in Monument, Colorado on October 7, 2017 at 3PM with a reception to follow. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Association (ALSA.org)
