Obituary

Martha left us peacefully in the early hours of November 30th, 2024, in her eighty sixth year.
Survived by her loving husband Donald Ross Curtis of 64 years and four children Andrew and wife Michelle, Patricia and husband Dean, Donald his wife Fiona and Michelle and husband Steve. She was Grandmother to Serena, Justin and Simon, Kristina Lyra (Max), Michael and Isabel, Ryan, Tristan (Jasmine), Maria, and Devan. Great grandmother of Amethyst.
Martha would tell you it was a very interesting life. She was born in Mexico City and raised in Venezuela with three half siblings Oscar Castro, Leroy Jaun and Robert Morgan. It was there, in the small town of San Tome, that she met her future husband, Don. After, as Don would say, "He chased her and chased her until she caught him ", they were happily married on March 5th, 1960. Then, with two children in tow and expecting her third, the adventurous couple moved to Trinidad where they had two more children in the deep south of the Trinidad oilfields. They lived in a small oil field camp of seven houses. It is a tribute to her strength of character and fortitude that she not only survived but thrived after being thrown into this less-than-ideal situation. She spent the next twenty-six years living the Caribbean life to the fullest. She loved bridge, horse racing, and played a mean game of tennis but as she always said, her children were the most important thing in her life. And even though they became scattered from Trinidad to Anguilla, Canada, and Orlando, she made it her business to know what was happening in their lives at all times.
Leaving Trinidad in 1988 Martha and Don spent a short two years in Toronto Canada which proved to be a little too cold after so many years in the Caribbean. They decided to move south and settled in Orlando very close to their daughter Trish and her husband Dean where they spent the next twenty-four years enjoying the warmth of Orlando and the many friendships, they developed especially among the Trinidadian diasporas.
Martha was not the tallest lady in the room, but she certainly had the biggest heart when it came to her family, and friends. She was a woman of deep faith with a marvelous sense of humor and loved to laugh. Martha will be remembered for her unwavering love, boundless generosity, and the joy she brought to all who knew her, she loved life to the very end. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in her beloved children and the lives she touched.
A celebration of Martha's life will be held on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Annunciation Catholic Church, 1020 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, Orlando. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Sharing Center in her honor.
