Obituary

MAGAZZU, MARK, 70 - of Valrico, Florida (formerly of Ventnor, New Jersey), passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family at Tampa General Hospital. He was both born (Dr. DeHellebranth's Hospital) and raised in Ventnor, where he attended St. James School. Mark was a 1973 graduate of Holy Spirit High School and went on to study at Villanova University.

Mark's professional career was rooted in the casino and gaming industry starting at Caesar's. He worked at Showboat in Atlantic City from the day it opened in 1987 until 2008, when he made the move to Tampa, Florida to join the Seminole Hard Rock Casino. Perfectly timed, this was just a few weeks after his daughter moved there for college. A true family man, Mark always put those he loved first in every decision he made. He continued to work at the Hard Rock up until his passing and had plans to retire in just a few months, a milestone he had truly earned.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Mark lived a life full of laughter, generosity, and stories that could captivate any room. He loved sports, movies, fishing, and live events, and looked forward to Spring Training every year - perfectly situated in Tampa as both a Yankees and Phillies fan (different leagues, don't ask!). Mark umpired countless ball games for his children, knowing the rulebook like the back of his hand. His memory for life's details, the important dates, the final scores, right down to the weather the day someone hit it out of the park, was unmatched. Mark was known to retell stories, each time with the same enthusiasm as the first. From St. James to the Hard Rock and every stop in between, Mark made friends who became family, and he cherished these lifelong friendships.

Mark loved his family deeply, especially his wife, Mary Cannon Magazzu, whom he cared for devotedly over the last 45 years. He was the glue that held the family together, teaching lessons in life, sportsmanship, and kindness, always leading by example. His storytelling, warmth, and humor will live on in all who knew him. "Heroes get remembered, but legends never die."

Mark was predeceased by his parents, Andrew Magazzu and Thelma (Bufano) Magazzu, and his brother, Andrew L. Magazzu Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Mary Cannon Magazzu; three children, James (Dominique), Nicholas, and Mari; five grandchildren, Trinity, Mallory, Nicholas, Justin, and Matthew; one great-grandchild, Jalen; two siblings, Andrea (Spencer) and Michele (Barry); and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mark's life will be announced soon for family and friends to honor his memory.
