Mark Alva Hendrixson of St. Petersburg passed peacefully on May 12, with his wife of almost 48
years by his side, at the Bay Pines Veterans Administration Hospice Facility. Mark was the young
age of 76 when he passed on to heaven.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Anna Mae Hendrixson.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy, his children Shari (Michael) Florio and Brian, his
grandchildren Vincent, Camden, Arianna and Maisie, his sister Madeline Schnell, his brother-in-
law Dan Vierling (Pam), his nieces (Beth, Tracey (Alan), Erin, Emily (Sam)) and nephew (Jeff
(Suzi)). He also was loved by his great nieces (Brittany (Pat), Kirsten, Mia) and great-great nieces
(Kinsey, Keegan) and great-great nephews (Karter, Kingsten).
Mark was born to William and Anna on February 26, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had one older
sibling, Madeline Ann and her late husband Jerry Schnell. His fondest childhood memories were of
his Schwinn Corvette bicycle and his dog Rexie. Mark graduated from Westlake High School and
served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam war. Mark graduated from the
University of South Florida with his Bachelors in Business Management and a Masters of
Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology.
Mark met his wife in 1975, and they married in St. Petersburg, Florida, July 31, 1976. Their 48-
year marriage is a testament of their true love for one another and an exhibit of unconditional
love. Their union was blessed with two children, Shari Ann and Brian William, each a source of
immense pride for Mark. His love story continued to grow with the birth of his grandchildren
Vincent Whalen, Camden Thomas, Arianna Jade, and Maisie Austin.
Mark worked in Aerospace at Honeywell Aerospace on the space program. Throughout his
career he moved through the ranks to the position of Business Manager. Mark retired from
Honeywell in 2009. Upon retirement, he became a house husband for his wife, while she
continued to work as a nurse at Edward White Hospital for another 5 years. Upon her
retirement, they traveled the world together, visiting places like Australia and New Zealand, the
Greek Isles, Italy, England, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, and the United States National Parks. His
favorite memories included traveling with his wife and friends on cruises and VRBO stays. Mark
and Kathy enjoyed spending time together as volunteer ushers for Ruth Eckerd Hall and mostly
loved spending time with their grandchildren. Mark's friendships were meaningful, and he
always made time for fun and travel with his life-long friends.
Mark's passions included his family, running, golf, swimming, kayaking, computers, airplanes,
arts and drawing, and sports. He raised his kids to be Florida State Seminoles and he always
rooted for the hometown Tampa Bay teams - Buccaneers, Rays and Lightning. Mark's faith was
strong as a member of Pasadena Community Church, St. Petersburg, Florida for over fifty years,
where his father, Bill Hendrixson, sang in their choir for many years. Though his time has now

come to an end, the life he created, and his legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of
those who knew and loved him.
