In loving memory of Marjorie Burkey Markwell who died peacefully at Gulfside Hospice on July 2nd 2016. She was the daughter of Edward Burkey and Pearl (Payne) Burkey . She was born September 30th, 1922 in Westport Connecticut . She graduated Staples High School in 1940 and Norwalk School of Nursing in 1943. She worked as a registered nurse at Norwalk Hospital and later as a nursing supervisor and clinical instructor . She interrupted her nursing career to complete post graduate studies at NYU and was affiliated with the Yale Nursing Program. Afterwards she traveled out west and worked at several hospitals , before retuning to Connecticut. Upon her return she accepted a position at Norwalk Hospital as a clinical instructor for student nurses and was awarded the Brian McMahon Scholarship to study cancer . She later married and moved to Florida where she worked for Bay Pines VA as a head nurse until her retirement in 1989. Among her cherished achievements was her Golden Eaglet award in 1938 from Girlscouts . She maintained an active nursing license until age 90. She loved to learn and loved her profession.

She was active in both Cornerstone Church and the Bridge Church. She enjoyed her bible study group and fellowship with the members of both churches. She was active with NARF and served as a Chaplin for many years. She was also a member of Tops and Kops . She is survived by her daughter Marjorie Markwell Constantine, her sister Florence Smith, multiple nieces and nephews , her honorary grandchildren Jennifer Constantine and Perry Tecton. She adored them both and they kept her young.

She was a great lady, my very best friend and the best mother a daughter could ever have. She will be missed.
Memorial Services will be held at the Bridge Church, 5251 110th Avenue, Ste 118, Clearwater, Fl 33760 on Saturday 7/23/16 at 11:00 am.
