Marilyn Kay Gunnet Stelene, 87, passed away suddenly April 11, 2021. She was born in York PA to Clair and Ethel Gunnet. She learned to play piano at an early age. In high school and while attending Susquehanna University she was a chorus member as well an accompanist.
In 1954 she married her Eagle Scout boyfriend LaRue Stelene. In 1957 Martin Marietta transferred LaRue from Baltimore, Maryland to Orlando FL. She became an active member of the Marlando Club where she made many long lasting friendships. Together they lovingly raised their four children in Central Florida.
She was an active member of Saint John Lutheran Church in Winter Park, where she taught the three year old Sunday School class for over 40 years. She was dearly loved by the children as Miss Marilyn. She was also involved in the women's fellowship and the Annual Mother Daughter Banquet even modeling in their fashion shows. She was involved in the Dorcas Ministry by providing finger sandwiches, a comfort food that all could enjoy and by being a server at the receptions. She volunteered as an Additions for many years even when she had no longer had children attending that school. She taught Adult Literacy and she was a ten gallon blood donor being sure to mark her calendar when she was eligible to donate again.
Although she did not learn how to swim until she became a mother, she taught all her Florida grandchildren how to swim in the backyard pool. She was a fun and loving grandmother who thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with each of her grandchildren. She loved her family unconditionally. She was always a great cook and prepared a special birthday family dinner with all of your favorite foods and loved hosting our family holiday get togethers. However her favorite holiday tradition was baking her famous Christmas Sand Tart cookies with her family Thanksgiving weekend. She loved bringing Christmas joy to others with a cookie tin filled with her freshly baked cookies even mailing them to out of state family members.
Marilyn loved playing pinochle! She was the Pinochle Card Queen who never missed the chance to enjoy a game of pinochle with family and good friends. She loved being dealt a great hand. She was also the Queen of Hallmark cards sending cards to make everyone feel special by remembering their birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.
Arrangements are pending at this time.
The family of Marilyn Stelene invites you to leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall created in her loving memory.
