Obituary

Major Alfred John Conti, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Longwood, on April 5, 2022.

He achieved the Boy Scout's rank of Eagle Scout in his youth. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University for 2 years and the University of Nevada for 1 year before enlisting in the Air Force to enter the Aviation Training Program at Harlingen, TX in 1953. His first assignment after graduation was to Sheppard Air Force Base near Wichita Falls, TX. There he met and married his wife, of 65 years, Faye Garner. He became a Master navigator and flew over 10,000 hours in various aircraft (including KC 97's, KC 135's, C130's and C141's). In 1966, he was awarded the Air Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He retired from the Air Force in 1973.

He moved to Longwood in 1977 and attended Jones College and earned a BA in Journalism. Alfred then worked as a manager of the technical library at Kennedy Space Center. He retired from NASA in 1995. Alfred was an avid coin collector and a "lover" of fine wines.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Conti, daughter Brenda (Conti) Heyward, son Cliff Conti, granddaughters Elizabeth (Conti) Melvin and Emily Conti.
