Dr. Luis Octavio Calderón passed away peacefully the morning of January 27th, surrounded by his loving and devoted wife, Silvia; his daughter, Tania; his son, Alex and Alex's wife, Jennifer and their three children. Tania's husband, Axel Ulrich, was amongst the mourners as well.
Dr. Calderón was born on October 31, 1929, in Matanzas, Cuba. His family had lived in Cuba for generations; and it is here, in Havana, where he opened his first dental practice. In 1966, Dr. Calderón came to the United States and established a life in Miami. Shortly thereafter he was reunited with Silvia, the sister of his childhood friend, which set off a love story that survived to the day of his death. Dr. Calderón found love and peace in following Jesus and God's will as an adult and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winter Garden. This faith served him well though a number of difficult situations later in his life, including his battle with the brain cancer that ultimately took his life. His family remembers him as loving, hilarious, hard-working, and tenacious. A service in his honor was held at Calvary Baptist Church, 631 S Dillard St, Winter Garden, FL 34787, on Saturday, January 30, 2016.
