Lucile Elaine Newnham, age 81, passed on March 6, 2016 in Orlando, Florida. Elaine was born September 8, 1934, in New York, New York, the daughter of Harry Jensen and Lucile Gillis. She attended grade school and college in New York.

As a young lady, she attended many dances at the United States Military Academy located at West Point, New York, where she met the love of her life, Donald Fred Newnham, Sr., and married him on June 4, 1954.

She was a dedicated military wife supporting her husband's military career. As is customary for military service, they were stationed in various locations throughout the USA and overseas. They were fortunate to have two separate four year terms stationed at West Point, New York where they raised their children, a son, Donald (Donnie) Fred Newnham Jr. and identical twin daughters, Deborah Lucile Newnham Hoyle and Barbara Elaine Newnham Kiser.
After her husband's retirement from the military, they settled in Maitland, Florida. She started a career as a travel agent and owned a business selling dog art objects and crafts at various dog shows throughout the U.S.

Elaine thoroughly enjoyed sewing, ceramics, needlepoint, reading, shopping, traveling, and dogs. She shared her joy of sewing with her girls and helped them with sewing their first outfit, baby blue hot pants with a bib that were popular in the 70's.

Her favorite travel and shopping city is London, England. When she visited England she often attended the renowned Crufts Dog Show and Harrods super store where she especially loved their coffee and Harrods labeled bags. Other places she has visited include China, Dubai, Alaska, Norway, Canada, Bermuda, India, and so many, many more.

She loved dogs and owned several breeds throughout her lifetime. Starting with Shelties, Collies, Golden Retrievers, Old English Sheepdogs, and most recently, Polish Lowland Sheepdogs. She belonged to and was active in numerous dog clubs.

Elaine was diagnosed, about three years ago, with stage 3b non-small cell lung cancer that has a very low survival rate. She underwent chemo and radiation. Two years after her treatment she received a report from her cancer doctor that she may have stopped the cancer in its track. She fought the battle and was a cancer survivor!

Elaine is survived by her daughters Deborah Newnham Hoyle and her husband Daniel Hoyle; Barbara Newnham Kiser and her husband David Kiser; her two grandsons Donald Hoyle and Dillon Hoyle; and a number of other relatives and close friends.

There will be a memorial service for Elaine at 10:00am on Saturday March 12, 2016. The service will be held at St. Alban's Anglican Cathedral located at 3348 West State Road 426, Oviedo FL followed by light refreshments in the fellowship hall. Her daughters Debbie and Barbara will be honored by your attendance and would love to hear your stories of how their mom affected your life. She will be buried at the West Point Cemetery at The United States Military Academy alongside her husband and son.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her honor to the American Cancer Society or any pet rescue group of your choosing.
