Lucien Donald Avery, 77 passed away at home with family and Hospice support on April 23rd after a short battle with Cancer. Don was born in Elmira, N.Y. and was the son of the late Lucien H and Hilda Avery. My tribute to the Memory of a fine man, by his wife, Judy ~ Don and I were together almost 40 years and our partnership extended to our company D & J Enterprises, established in 1977 where we worked side by side all those years. Don picked the name not only to represent us, but the flexibility to change venues as our lives changed. It didn't matter if it was the lawn and landscaping service, the pouring of driveways, sidewalks and patios, remodeling the Allied Discount Tire stores all over Florida, land clearing for new and established homesteads and road and drainage maintenance on private roads, welding and fabricating or diesel engine repair. His ingenuity and ability to adapt served him well. His work ethics were above reproach and he always gave 110 percent. Don enjoyed watching NASCAR, IRL and Formula One and he was a very loyal Tony Stewart fan. Traveling in our 5th wheel travel trailer to visit relatives and go to antique car, tractor and old steam engine shows was one of our pleasures. One of his legacy's is the 1200 bare root stock cedar trees that he planted on our property years ago and nurtured them until they became the stately trees they are today and a reminder of his love for nature. Don was an avid reader of Westerns having read thousands, at first in paperback and then I transitioned him to the world of Kindle and Nook which he was really enjoying. "He was a man to ride the river with". A recent song by Christina Aguilera, "Shotgun" says it all. "Love is taking turns riding shotgun" and I will miss my "Shotgun" partner. Don is also survived by a loving family including his daughter Tamara Faircloth, FL, son Donald Avery Jr., W.V., daughter Susan Avery, FL, stepdaughter Cassie Ruhe, FL, stepson James Jeske, FL, stepson Michael Avery, N.Y., stepson James Avery, CO, stepdaughter Sharon Roberts, FL, 26 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, sister Pauline, Sebastian, FL, and sister Dale Coffey, Florida. Don felt this love and was so proud of each and every one of you and loved you dearly. A service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
