Louis Ignacio Gaby passed away on November 2, 2019 at age 92. He was born in Los Angeles, California. His parents met in Mexico. His mother was from Mexico and his father was from the United States. He was raised in Homestead, Florida. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Florida and a Master's Degree from Duke University, both in forestry. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He was also a Navy veteran who served in Key West near the end of the Second World War. He married Grace Ygartua and had two sons and one daughter. He spent most of his adult life in Athens, Georgia working as a research scientist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a talented wood worker and inventor. He was as kind and gracious a person as you could ever hope to meet and had a playful sense of humor. He is survived by his brother, Donald; his sister, Margaret; sons Lee and Bill; daughter Julie; grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other family members.
