Loretta Brown Chapin's Obituary
Loretta Brown Chapin was born on June 12, 1944 to Robert E and Catherine (Matzerath) Brown in New York, New York. The family moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania as a work relocation for Loretta's father. Loretta attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School, Allentown Central Catholic High School and College Misericordia, where she received a degree in Elementary Education. She went on to earn a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Temple University.
She worked in several elementary schools in her early career when she realized that she wanted to dedicate her life to educating children in the Catholic Faith. She served as a first grade and fourth grade teacher in St. Mary's School in Catasaqua, PA and St. Michael's School in Limeport, PA. She later served as the school principal of St. Ann School in Emmaus, PA, for the last 22 years of her career. She retired from teaching in 2008 and moved to Casselberry, Florida to be closer to her family.
Loretta was heavily involved in her community. She volunteered at the Winter Park Playhouse, the Orlando Museum of Art, St. Margaret Mary School and in various ministries at St. Margaret Mary Church. Her favorite ministries were the Haiti Ministry and Purls and Prayers. She was an active member of the University Club in Winter Park and the Civitan Club.
Loretta loved to travel, especially cruising. She also loved to read, crochet, and go out to lunch with her friends.
Loretta is survived by her daughter Michelle Tyson and son-in law Chris Tyson, her granddaughters Catherine Tyson and Elizabeth Tyson, brother Richard and sister-in-law Cookie Brown, nephew Walter and his wife Tina Brown and nephew Rich Brown, in addition to many great-nephews.
Loretta's funeral mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church in Winter Park, FL at 10am on Friday, July 2. There will be a viewing immediately before the mass at 9:30am, also in the church. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Loretta's name may be sent to St. Margaret Mary Catholic School or the Winter Park Playhouse.
