Lois Mae Jackson, born March 8, 1929 in NY, went to be with the Lord October 4, 2014. Lois loved her family, her church and the Lake Mary community. She moved to their home on Little Lake Mary with her family in 1962. In the early 1970's she earned her MA in Psychology from UCF. Since then she has been a very active member of her community. Her husband served as the first president of the Rotary Club where she also served. In 1973, she became the First Lady of Lake Mary as her husband took office as the first Mayor.
Lois has a long history of service. She was a nurse for the Seminole County Health Department and a Social Worker for Seminole County until 1992. In 1989 she was awarded Social Worker of the Year by the FAVT School Social Workers and, in 2006, they awarded her an Emeritus Board of Honor membership.
Since retirement, she has served in many community associations including the Lake Mary Woman's Club, and Sanford Garden Club among others. For many years, the Lake Mary Historical Society was a passion of hers as she sought to document and preserve the history of her beloved city. Lois loved to travel especially to London, her favorite overseas destination. She also looked forward to her volunteer medical mission trips to Honduras and was blessed to be able to make the trip five times.
Lois is survived by her three children and their families: daughter Susan and John Cox of St. Louis, MO; daughter Cathy and Don Hicks of Renton, WA; and son Donald J. and Judy Jackson of Port Orange, FL; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Even in her later years, Lois continued to find ways to serve others by becoming involved in her church community at St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Lake Mary. The altar guild was dear to her heart and in lieu of flowers; donations to the guild can be made in her honor. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2014 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Lake Mary with reception to follow.
