Lois Drumm passed away at the age of 95 on Monday, April 17th, 2023 in St. Petersburg, FL.

Lois was born on September 28th, 1927 to Clifford Welsh and Dorothy Meanor Welsh in Pittsburgh, PA, and was the oldest of three sisters, Audrey Little (deceased) and Carol Eisengart of St. Petersburg. She is also survived by daughter Sandra Lear (George), son Robert Drumm (Sunee), and several nieces and nephews.

She graduated from South Hills High School in Pittsburgh and Indiana (PA) State Teachers College with a B.A. in Music Education. She told of attending many concerts of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and was especially proud of having seen famed pianist Arthur Rubenstein perform in Pittsburgh. Lois originally aspired to be a harpist, but with steel at a premium during World War II, strings for harps could not be obtained and she chose to learn the violin as her primary instrument. While in college, she met fellow musician Robert J. (Bob) Drumm of Johnstown, PA. Following graduation, they both taught music in Pittsburgh area schools after marrying on June 3, 1950 in Pittsburgh, and in 1954, moved to St. Petersburg, FL where Bob became a band director at a local junior high, and Lois a housewife and mother. Lois resumed teaching instrumental music in several Pinellas County elementary schools in 1968 until her retirement in 1990.

In her spare time, Lois enjoyed needlecraft and made many beautiful pillows and wall hangings. The Drumm family had pet dachshunds from the time the kids were small, and Lois loved them all, especially her last two, Cookie and Lady. Once both Lois and Bob were retired, they enjoyed traveling, particularly to Switzerland.

The family is eternally grateful to our friend Karen Lewin, Lois' caregiver for several years beginning in 2014, and to the staff of the Memory Care Unit of the Samson Nursing Center at Menorah Manor, where Lois spent her last two years. She received loving care from all.
