Obituary

Linda Tomlinson, 65, passed away on January 28. She was surrounded by family and friends. She had a long battle with ovarian cancer, which she fought to the very end.

Linda entered the world on June 16, 1950. She was born to Edward and Joan Mettel in Aurora, Illinois. She was the oldest of 3 children. Linda was a fantastic big sister to her brother, Lonny Mettel and sister, Leanne Mettel. Her family decided to relocate to Florida when she was nine years old.

While attending high school, she found a passion for writing. She was a charter member of FTU and was the creator and first editor of the school newspaper, The Future. While attending FTU, which is now called UCF, she also founded the Eta Kappa chapter of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and was the first president of the organization. Even after graduation, Linda served as an active alumni member for over 40 years.

Linda also found a passion for something else in high school...Michael Tomlinson. Linda and Mike were married on September 9, 1972. They were devoted to each other for over 44 years. Their marriage was an example of unconditional love and respect. After being married a few years, they had their first daughter Dawn in 1977. Their second daughter Sara came along in 1990. Linda was a caring, gentle and loving mother. She loved parties and celebrations and was often seen planning every detail to a holiday or birthday party.

Linda touched the lives of every person she met. She always had a warm smile or encouraging words to offer. Throughout her life she had the chance to work at many different jobs. Linda always gave 100% to every job and formed many close friendships while working. She has also had many lifelong friends and has also touched the lives of many in her sorority.

Finally Linda was a doting grandmother to two girls. She spoiled them and gave them tons of love and support. Her battle with cancer was a long one and everyone is relieved to know she is pain-free. Linda is survived by her husband, Michael Tomlinson, her mother-in-law, Edith Tomlinson, her daughters Dawn Barlow and Sara Tomlinson, her son-in-law, Carey Barlow, her granddaughters Hannah and Emily Barlow, her sister Leanne Mettel, brother Lonny Mettel and niece Suzanne Mettel.
