Obituary

Fisher, Lewis "Lew" Lamar, 80, departed this life Sunday, June 15th at Vitas Hospice, Winter Park. For several years Lew had struggled with Alzheimers and at first was cared for by his loving wife, Betty before going to an Alzheimers Care Facility. Born in Hickory, North Carolina on July 3, 1933 to parents Edward L. and Gertrude V. Fisher, both deceased. Lew attended school in Hickory and then joined the Air Force from 1954-57. He graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and worked for the U.S. Army where he met Betty.
They were married in Greensboro, NC on August 11, 1973 and he adopted and became a wonderful father to Betty's young children, Jimmy and Kathy. The Fisher family moved to Maitland, FL in 1976 where Lew continued his work with the U.S. Army/STRICOM. He obtained additional degrees at FIT (MBA) and Rollins College (Certified Financial Planner).
A calm, quiet, very gentle person, Lew was respected for his integrity and faithfulness. When Lew spoke, people listened with great respect for his thoughtfulness and wisdom. Lew thoroughly enjoyed his family and friends, Clemson football, officiating at football games, coaching baseball, playing bridge, and taking pride and supporting Betty in her activities, projects and leadership rolls. He was a dedicated volunteer for many years at the Episcopal Church of Good Shepherd Food Bank. Lew also served on the Board of Directors for the Lake of the Woods Homeowners Association.
Survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty Dowdy Fisher, son James Fisher, daughter Kathy Fisher, adopted daughter, Savanna Fisher (great granddaughter), grandchildren Michael, Phillip, Morgan, and two very special dogs, Snoopy and King Tut. One sister and two brothers preceded Lew in death.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Richard's Episcopal Church with Rev. Alison Harrity, Rector and Rev. Thomas Downs, Rector Emeritis on Thursday, July 3rd at 11 a.m. A luncheon reception will be held in the church parish hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Richard's Church, 5151 Lake Howell Road, Winter Park, FL 32789, Vitas Hospice, 2075 Loch Lomond Dr., Winter Park, FL 32792, or Alzheimer Association, 378 Centerpoint Circle, Suite 1280, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701.
