Barrows, Lewis (Lew) Henry, 85 of Seminole, FL died July 4, 2026 at home surrounded by family. Born March 20, 1941 in Romeo, MI to Lena and Leo Barrows, owners of one of the largest orchards in MI at the time, Mountain View Orchards. Lew moved to FL in 1952 with his mother after the passing of his father and has been a resident of Seminole since 1968.
Music was always Lew’s first love and he was very talented. He played trumpet all through middle school. He switched to drums after a bus accident temporarily injured his hand. After his hand healed, he became a stand out musician as he could play both trumpet and drums at the same time. Lew played both for the Boca Ciega High School marching band before graduating in 1959. After high school, he continued playing in various bands and entertaining countless people around the Tampa Bay area the rest of his life.
A real adventurer, Lew spent many years with the Boy Scouts. He earned Eagle Scout in 1956 and later went on to become a Scout Master for troop 396 in St. Petersburg. In the 17 years he served the troop, he led 17 boys to earn Eagle Scout for themselves. During his time with the scouts he earned several accolades including The District Award of Merit (1977), National Rifleman Association (1978), The Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service to Youth (1983), and the Service to Mankind Award (1989).
Lew also logged over 4000 hours of service as a volunteer police officer for the St. Pete Police Dept where he served proudly from 1976-1991. He earned his bachelor's degree from Eckerd College in 1986 and received the Dale Carnegie Certificate in 1994.
Lew spent his entire career as a salesman. He worked for RL Hammette and Associates for more than 50 years traveling from office to office around the bay area. He absolutely loved entertaining his customers and was always quick with a joke. He was the king of 1 liners.
He loved camping and fishing, something he shared for over 40 years with his wife Bunny and their family. He will be truly missed for many years to come.
He is preceded in death by his father Leo, mother Lena, and daughter Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife Bunny of 36 years, daughter Natalie Barrows, son Lee (Lynda) Barrows, son Shane (Christine) Audibert, daughter Tara (Dorian) Levy. Lew had 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Memorial service on July 18, 2026 11am at DeGusipe Funeral Home (3530 49th St. N, St. Petersburg, FL).
