Retired Maitland police captain, Leon Paul Root, passed gently away
following a very lengthy illness, on November 25th, 2014. Born on
November 10th 1927. His mother, Elsa Tesch Root became a widow two
months prior to his birth. His father Gordon Root passed away at age 37.
Leon was preceded in death by his Parent's, Brothers: Harold Root -
Ontario, New York; Richard Root - Fairport, New York; and Sisters:
Laura LaBarr - Rochester, NY; Betty Lee Rochester, NY. He is survived by
Brother Donald Root, Greece, New York and many nieces and nephews.

Leon enlisted in the US Coast Guard Merchant Marine and the US Army from 1944-1949.

Dad married Laura Wawro in 1950, and had three Daughters: Christine, and
twins, Marcia and Jacqueline. They divorced in the late 1960's. Laura
passed away in 1993. Dad, was re-married to Barbara Watson in 1969, who
passed away in 2011.

He is survived by his children, Christine Branch and husband Mark,
Topton, NC; Jacqueline Lee McClure also of Topton, NC; Marcia Nicarry
and husband Steven of Greenville, NH. Four Grandchildren, James Vernon,
Jennifer Allman, Derek Nicarry and Daniel Young. Six great-grandchildren
and one great-great grandchild.

He is also survived by his step-children: Lawrence Watson, wife Lynne
and family of Winter Park, Fl; Thom Watson and family of Bath, Maine;
Kate Gelabert, husband Tony and family of Tallahassee, Fl.

We will forever be grateful to Dad and Barbara' s long-time friend
Lauretta Dinan, and his housekeeper and true friend, Karen. Thank you
to Liz and the Vitas Hospice Team for his ongoing care, which allowed
Dad to remain in the home he and Barbara so loved.

A graveside Memorial Service for Leon and Barbara Root is scheduled for January 18th, 2015 at 2:30PM, Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando, Fl.

Both Leon and his wife Barbara will be interred following the memorial service.
