Leo W Salvail ended his journey on this earth on October 18, 2014 at the age of 99. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne D'Arc Salvail, Sanford, eldest son James R Salvail, daughter Claire J Salvail, youngest son Paul D. Salvail, Florentina (Nini) Salvail, daughter-in-law, and Norma Salvail, daughter-in-law. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Christina Salvail, Paul A Salvail, and Danielle Jimenez.

Leo proudly served for 25 years in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Aviation Pilot and was a veteran of World War II. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with two bronze stars, Philippine Defense Medal with three silver stars, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal with three bronze stars, American Theatre Medal, Defense Medal with bronze star, Presidential Unit Citation, American Victory Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal/Combat V. Leo was extremely proud of his achievements and published an article based on his Naval experiences entitled "Lest We Forget."

He was a member of his beloved All Souls Catholic Church, past president of the Holy Name Society, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Fleet Reserve Association, the Silver Eagles Association, the DAV and VFW.

Upon retiring from the Navy in 1951, Leo, along with his wife Jeanne, built a home in Sanford. He was a strong believer in working hard to achieve goals and instilled that belief in his children. He enjoyed swimming, watching baseball games, and loved dancing until old age settled in.
