Lenora (Nora) Grace Miller of Altamonte Springs passed peacefully from this world on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at the age of 99. She was born November 29, 1920, in Thomasville, GA to parents Max and Rosa Attell (nee Goldman). Nora was a member of Lakehill Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was married to her loving husband Hilt Miller for fifty-eight years until his passing in 1996. From humble beginnings in small-town Georgia, she went on to enjoy a rich and remarkable life, living and working around the world during Hilt's military career with the United States Navy. She was a strong, independent woman who always took pride in working. She continued to work into her 70s, ultimately retiring from her last job with the State of Florida as a Toll Collector with the Central Florida Expressway Authority.
She and Hilt were blessed with three children. Murry Miller (deceased 2016), Connie Peacock, and David Miller. She was a wonderful mother and leaves a legacy of humor, humility, and kindness that will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless family members and friends who knew and adored her.
Nora will be forever missed but never forgotten. She never lost her Southern drawl, charm, or hospitality. In place of flowers or donations, Nora would ask that you simply pay it forward. Enjoy her Banana Bread (recipe below). As Nora would have done, be sure to make an extra loaf to share with someone you love.
Nora's Famous Banana Bread
• 1 Cup Sugar
• 1 Stick Butter
• 2 Eggs
• 1 ½ Cups Plain Flour
• ¼ Teaspoon Salt
• 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
• 3 Mashed Bananas (extra ripe)
• ¼ Cup Chopped Pecans
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix thoroughly, then add bananas and pecans. Bake in a lightly greased and flour-dusted loaf pan at 350 degrees for one hour or until done (she always used the toothpick test). Cool, remove from pan, slice, and enjoy!
A private family service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020, where Nora will join her husband and son at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Sumter County, Florida, USA.
A celebration of her life is planned for her 100th birthday.
The family of Lenora "Nora" Grace Miller invites you to leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall created in her memory.
