Dr. Leland Barkman Potter
95, of Seminole, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 7, 2015. He was born December 19, 1919 in Erie, IL. He lived in Southlawn Addition, Rock Island, IL for over 56 years until he and his wife moved to Florida in May 2007 to be closer to family.
He graduated from Rock Island High School and Augustana College, both in Rock Island, IL, and Loyola School of Dentistry, Chicago, IL. He practiced dentistry for over 35 years in Rock Island, IL retiring in 1981. He also served in the US Army and achieved the rank of Captain during the Korean Conflict.
He married Eleanor Howe in March 1945 and they had recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.
He was a member of Memorial Christian Church of Rock Island, IL for over 60 years, Fifteenth Avenue Church of Rock Island, and most recently First Christian Church of Seminole, FL. Dr. Potter was also a member of Kiwanis, the Dental Society, and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Leroy Potter and Addie Barkman Potter, and four brothers (Donald, Roger Jr., Eldon, and Warren). Loving family he leaves behind are wife, Eleanor Howe Potter; daughters Linda Miller, Lana Mosca, and Diane (Bob) Mackie; grandchildren Andrea Miller and Jennifer Durante; Lance and Angel Miller; Nicolas Mosca; Julie and Forest Spain; Sheila and Mitchel Beardsley; Jackie and Shawn Knadler; and great-grandchildren Paul and Cameron Miller; Caleb and Noah Parker; Morgan, Sydney and Avery Beardsley; Evan, Brady, Dillon, and Addie Knadler.
Visitation will be held at R. Lee Williams Funeral Home in St. Petersburg, FL Wednesday, Nov. 11 beginning at 10 A.M. with service following at 11 A.M. Interment at Bay Pines National Cemetery at a later date.
