Obituary

Lawrence Arnold Palomino, 85 passed quietly on October 27, 2021. Larry was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1936 to Leo Palomino and Betty Brod Palomino.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jeana Treat Palomino; his sons Christopher John Palomino, Robert Nathan Palomino; his daughters; Lori Ann Brutlag, Sheri Little Marek; his grandchildren; Jillian Brutlag, Celeste Palomino, Alysia Carges, Patrick Palomino, Nathan Little; his sisters; Dolores Heron and Lorraine Hultman.

He was encouraged by his Father to sing at an early age. He sang in the Catholic Church, his Father's faith and in the local Synagogue, his mother's faith.

In Larry's words… "I started singing in the church choir at the age of about 10 when my family moved to Miami in 1947. My singing continued through Junior and Senior High. My first exposure to quartet singing was in High school when we put on a minstrel show. Our quartet was known as the City Slickers: Gene Cockcroft, Dale Strang, Wiley Joiner and myself. We were a smash!"

After graduating from Miami Edison High School, he attended the University of Miami. In Larry's words… "After college I went into the Air Force. While stationed in Goose Bay Labrador I accepted the position of Choir Director. After getting out of the service, back in Miami, I once more hooked up with Gene Cockcroft who was directing the Miamians Barbershop Chorus. I took an active part in show participations. I was also in several registered quartets. While living in Miami, Miramar and Coral Springs I directed church choirs for about 18 years."

Larry was active in the Miramar Jaycees for many years, leading projects and providing support to the community and chairing projects to assist in providing medical supplies to counties in South America. He was awarded Senator status when he aged out of the organization.

Larry spent his entire life career in sales. In the early years he designed and sold industrial equipment, later he became a licensed stock and commodities broker. He also was a licensed mortgage broker, sold oil wells, oil leases, precious metals and his final sales career was with a National Cemetery company.

This position meant lots of traveling and many temporary residences over the years, as he was Director of Sales responsible for training in various locations nationwide.

In Larry's words… "At that time my job took me to many cities around the country. The first thing I would do is look to see if there was a Barbershop Chorus. Found them all. Once again singing in Choruses and registered quartets. My last job transfer point was Cleveland Ohio. At that point we decided this was enough traveling so we moved back to Florida settling in Orlando. Once again, I went looking for a Barbershop Chapter and found The Orange Blossom Chorus. This was January 2005. They accepted me on the spot. Then I saw some familiar faces, Jim LeBleu, Bill Ward, Grover Baker, all from the Miami Chorus, I was home."

Larry continued to be active with the Orange Blossom chorus until Covid. He was always referred to as "Larry the Lead" by his Barbershop Chorus family. He was a registered member of the Barbershop Harmony Society for 61 years.

Larry will always be in the hearts of his devoted family and friends, with fond memories of his love, his words of wisdom, his patience and devotion……we miss you deeply.
