Obituary

DUREN, LAWRENCE WILSON L.W.
90, of South Pasadena took the hand of the Lord and passed from this earth Friday, September 2nd, 2016 after a short time under hospice care. Born in Douglasville, GA. on Jan. 16th 1926. L. W. served in the Navy in the south pacific during WWII. After which he came back to Georgia and became a manufacturers representative in the plumbing trade. He lived in Memphis, TN for a short time before moving to St. Petersburg in 1957, co-founding Cochran Corporation which became Distributer Sales of Florida. He built a home in Bahama Shores in 1960. In 1979 he founded LW Duren Sales Agency, then in 1993 he retired and moved to relax and watch the birds at Harbourside in South Pasadena.
He was instrumental in the starting of Bay Vista Church of Christ in south St. Pete and then with the construction of the church building on 7th St. South. After moving to Harbourside, he returned to Northwest Church of Christ where he had attended upon moving to Florida. He always raised his hand to serve in any capacity that was needed. He was an Elder, taught bible classes, preached, visited others, led prayer and led singing. No job ever went unfulfilled. He loved the Lord and loved to sing hymns.
He had such inner determination that he persevered though ten years of dialysis, 3 times a week until his body quite rapidly began to get tired. His smile was infectious and he always wanted to make others feel good. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and he will be deeply missed but we know he is at peace in a better place.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Reba; son Gary, grandsons, Al (Mindy) Edward and Maxx Duren of St. Petersburg, son David (Nancy), grandsons Parker and Christian Duren of Eagan, MN, together with several nieces and nephews.
A service is scheduled for 11 am, Saturday Sept. 10th at Northwest Church of Christ, 6355-38th Ave. No., St. Pete. , Fl., 33710. The family welcomes friends at 10 am for visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Northwest Church of Christ Building Fund.
