Larry Glen Grimes
April 1952 - February 2024
Larry Glen Grimes was born in Albertville, AL on April 3, 1952, to parents James Walter and Mildred Clodessa Grimes and grew up in Chicago, IL. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was employed for more than 30 years as a superintendent in bridge construction. One of his most notable projects was repairing the I-40 bridge following the 2002 "I-40 bridge disaster" in Oklahoma where he and his crew set a new national record, completing in 2 months what would have taken other crews 6 months. He ran a tight ship!
Ships aside, Larry was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, riding his beloved Harley on many trips with his twin brother, Barry. He also enjoyed photography, losing drones in trees, and going on walks with his grandchildren and his loyal puppy, Lucy. A sucker for sweets, Larry was known to take a swipe or two of frosting from birthday cakes before parties (so much so they had to be hidden) and was a full supporter of any boys/girls/cub scouts table set up outside of the grocery store.
Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He never missed a Sunday group phone call with his brothers, Barry and Randy, and sister Judy. He enjoyed his last few adventures creating memories with immediate and extended family during trips to Key West and Alabama.
Predeceased by his parents and brother Ricky, Larry leaves behind a family legacy of his wife of almost 30 years, Carlann; daughters Molly Lopez (Giddel) and Kalli Morones (Adrian); sons Trey Bailey (Christina), Alex Bailey, Jim Grimes, and Mike Grimes (Leticia); and grandchildren Lexie and Millie Lopez, Charlotte Sanderford, Camille Grimes, Grayson Bailey, and Rowan Bailey.
A generous gentleman who always tried to take care of everyone else, he was known for his catchphrase, "It'll be alright."
In accordance with Larry's wishes, the family will be holding a private gathering to honor him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
