Kathryn Brinn, 101, died after a brief stay in Mease Countryside Hospital on October 27, 2026. Kathryn was the daughter of the late Edward H. Morris and the late Belva S. Morris of eastern North Carolina.
Kathryn was born in Washington, North Carolina, and grew up in Pinetown and Columbia, North Carolina. She remembers being blessed with a large and loving family with lots of fun times with her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives. She graduated from Columbia High School as Valedictorian on April 23, 1943. On her copy of her valedictory speech she wrote "I didn't even cry".
She worked as a bank teller at the bank in Columbia then attended East Carolina Teachers College in Greenville, N. C. where she studied secretarial skills becoming proficient in shorthand and typing.
Kathryn married James "Jimmie" G. Brinn on April 6, 1947, in Columbia, North Carolina. She briefly lived in South Tampa. She worked as a secretary for the Director of Housing at the University of Florida while her husband attended pharmacy classes under the Gl Bill after he served in the Army during World War II. After graduation, they moved to Pensacola, Florida, where he eventually opened Brinn Pharmacy. Jimmie passed away on July 10, 1980.
Kathryn enjoyed needlework. She crocheted many change purses and doilies as well as doing countless counted cross stitch and crewel embroidery pieces. She had a great eye for color. She also learned smocking and did a few needlepoint pieces. She also enjoyed reading, doing crosswords, dancing and singing. Singing in the church choir brought her joy.
