Karl Richard Geitner of Altamonte Springs died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday July 5, 2014. Born in St. Mary's PA on May 22, 1941 to Mary T. Weber and Charles W. Geitner, he grew up in Lakeland and Lantana FL. Karl was a graduate of the University of Florida and a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
Karl relocated to the Orlando FL area in 1964 and began a long engineering career at Lockheed Martin where he earned a patent on a circuit he designed, and worked on the notable programs LANTIRN and JASSM; retiring in 2007
Music was a major part of Karl's life, playing in high school band and later in the "Fightin' Gator Marching Band" at the University of Florida. A percussionist, he coached the drum line at Lake Mary High School where four of his children graduated, and was an active booster for the marching Rams. Karl played percussion with the Community Band in Seminole Community College, now Seminole State. A religious man, Karl was active in his church, Annunciation Catholic Church where he was a parishioner for 40 years; teaching catechism, ushering, and serving as a Eucharistic Minister.
Karl is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Shirley; his brother Jon and sister Christy; his children Robert, Charles, Jeanine, Leigh Ann, Catherine, Mary, and Timothy; and his grandchildren Kayleigh, Andrew, Cian, Remi, Callum, Brody and Connor
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday July 10, 2014 at 9:30 am at Annunciation Catholic Church - 1020 Montgomery Rd, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714. Interment will immediately follow Mass at Highland Memory Gardens - 3329 E Semoran Blvd, Forest City, FL 32703. Funeral arrangements are by DeGusipe Funeral Home 9001 N Orlando Ave, Maitland, FL 32751.
Karl's family have requested that donation's be made in his name to Shepherd's Hope Health Center - 600 N. US 17-92, Longwood, FL 32750 in lieu of flowers.
