Obituary

June Thompson Roth passed quietly into God's hands early on the morning of Wednesday June 21, 2023, after a lengthy illness. June was born on June 30, 1936, to Cliff and Mary Thompson in Binghamton, New York. Beloved by her parents and her brother Tom Thompson, she enjoyed a loving childhood with family and friends. In 1968, she married the love of her life, Jim Roth, the two becoming an amazing couple. They blended their individual families into one. She was mother to Tom Moore and wife Rhonda, Brad Roth and wife Kitty, Susan Pettegrew and husband Peter, and Tambria Carter and husband Randy. She was an adored nana to 11 grandchildren, Jessica, Tom, Mike, Brianna, Leah, Ryleigh, Jenna, Sophie, Abbie, Nathan and Cameron. She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren. In their retirement years, June and Jim enjoyed travel with family and friends and spent time in their Big Fork, Montana summer home, wintering in their Orlando home.

June was a beautiful person with a deep passion for children, desiring not only to teach, but also to be an integral part of their development and success in even the most difficult circumstances. In her younger years, she taught nursery and preschool. More recently, she rocked babies at Stepping Stones Preschool at their church, St. Stephen Lutheran. This was a thrill for her and despite her illness, she took her job seriously.

One never walked alone with June as a friend, mentor, parent or partner. She was such a huge presence, leading with wit, strength, fortitude, passion and zeal. She rose to challenges. She climbed mountains with determination, assisting others alongside. June put God first, with family and friends a very close second. If you were loved by June, you were loved fully, without reserve. She knew no other way. June served on the CARE team at her church providing comfort to the infirmed and shut ins. Additionally, she organized food and school supply programs for school children. During the 1980s June befriended and assisted a Russian immigrant family to settle in Upstate New York. Her heart was always concerned about the wellbeing of others. For that, she will always be loved and remembered by those who knew her.

A celebration of June's life will be held at St. Stephen Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock on Sunday, July 16th. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow the worship service.

In addition, a celebration of her life will take place in Bigfork, Montana on Tuesday, August 15th. It is here her ashes will reside, joining in God's beautiful country. Her family, friends and church family are welcome to come and share the joy of her life at the Big Fork Community Methodist Church beginning at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.
