With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Julio Cesar Merino Quevedo on May 21, 2025, shy 15 days of his 90th birthday. Julio left this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and cherished memories.

Julio was born in Amazonas, Peru, to the late Julio Cesar Merino Pereira and Aurora Merino Quevedo. He spent 34 years in Peru, raising 3 children from his marriage in Peru and 1 child from his second marriage in the USA.

He served for 15 years as a beloved police officer. His adventurous spirit also led him to work as a lifeguard, patrolman and in the Mounted Police Force. He also worked as a bodyguard for the United Nations top representative in Peru, Mr. Baliski . He was passionate about outdoor sports like fishing, swimming, and cycling, receiving several awards for his achievements.

Since he was a boy, he showed interest in music and learnt to play the guitar. While in Peru, he formed a group called "Los Callejeros", singing and playing in various locations. However, his greatest joy was gathering with his family and celebrating special occasions surrounded by love, laughter, and warmth. Until the end, he enjoyed going fishing and singing with his guitar.

After a very tough decision, he made the courageous choice to migrate to the United States in April 1970, leaving behind his beloved country of Peru to build a better life for his children. He, with unwavering dedication, worked tirelessly, overcoming countless obstacles along the way. Through his perseverance and hard work, he was able to achieve his dream.

Julio spent the remainder of his life in New Jersey, where he worked diligently in various roles. Later, he opened a mechanic shop in a gas station. He retired in Mount Dora, Florida, where he lived until his last day.

He was married to Carlota Merino, with whom he has been enormously happy for 54 years. The love and laughter were contagious and as example to follow. They treated themselves with great respect, admiration, and tenderness. Together, they raised their 4th child, Eric.

He is survived by his wife, Carlota Merino, brother Orlando Merino, and children, Julio, Will, and Monica, (Eric passed away a few years ago), as well as his grandchildren, Julie, Stephanie, Alessandra, Wil-André and Adrian.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at the DeGusipe Funeral Home and Crematory, 9001 Orlando Ave, Maitland, FL 32751.
