Obituary

Mrs. Joy Schwarz, ne Harrison, died peacefully on August 7, 2023, in Orlando, Fl at the age of 83.

Joy is survived by her husband, William Schwarz, of Orlando, Florida, her daughter Beth Jorett (husband Bob Jorett), son John Schwarz (wife Mary Ellen Schwarz), and daughter Amy Wrenn (husband Chris Wrenn), grandchildren Katie Viteritto (husband Josh Viteritto), Bobby Jorett (wife Karissa Holton), Billy Jorett, Emily Bommelje, Ethan Wrenn, Daniel Wrenn, Noah Wrenn, Jonathan Schwarz, Matthew Schwarz, and Lindsay Schwarz, and seven great grandchildren.

Joy was born on October 7, 1939, in Savannah, Ga to John Harrison and Alama Mason Harrison. She graduated from Savannah High School in 1957. She married her high school sweetheart, Billy, on June 14, 1959, and moved to Auburn, Al, where he attended Auburn University. After graduating, they moved to Melbourne, Fl where he began working as an electrical engineer at Harris Corporation and she began her career as a wife and mother. Shortly after, the family moved to Winter Park, Fl. Joy used her talents as a pianist to teach children to play piano for years in the Winter Park Pines community. Joy was very involved in her churches, St. Margaret Mary and Sts. Peter and Paul, as a music minister where she directed music for the liturgy. She also led the youth group and taught music at the preschool program at Sts. Peter and Paul.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, August 11, 2023, at 2pm at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church 5300 Old Howell Branch Road, Winter Park, Fl 32792, with a reception to follow at 8622 Aspen Ave, Orlando, Fl 32817. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joy's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
