Joseph Gannaway Mack, Jr. - Joe was born on February 10, 1941 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the Milwaukee General Hospital. His parents were Joseph Gannaway Mack Sr. of Collins, Arkansas and Margaret Clay Faulhaber Mack of Little Rock, Arkansas (both deceased) and he is survived by his wife Shirley Mack, son Joseph G Mack III, Daughter Melanie Mack Potter and 3 grandchildren, Mackenzie Logan Potter, and twins Katie Thiel Potter and Keegan Gannaway Potter all of Sanford, FL. He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Ann Mack Boles of Flowery Branch, GA and Maryclay Mack Smith of Powhatan, VA.
Joe and Shirley Ann Marie Haltom Mack, of Manchester, AR, were wed on the 22nd day of May 1960 in Fountain Lake, Arkansas by the Reverend Connie Robins. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage.
Joe graduated with a BS degree in Forestry from Arkansas A&M College (School of Forestry) in January 1964. He assumed the position of assistant district forester with St. Joe Paper Co. in Wewahitchka, FL where he was in charge of forest reforestation practices, road & bridge construction and timber stand management and cruising, In addition, Joe worked as forester for Georgia Pacific Corporation and Louisiana Pacific Corporation.
Joe worked his way across the US from the Gulf Coast to the Pacific Coast in the field of forestry. When the hills got too steep to climb, he took a job at NorPlex Plastics Company in developing products in the animal damage field in both Forestry and Vineyard viticulture which are still being used today.
Joe retired and moved back from the Pacific Northwest in December 1999. He worked with this son for 3 years before retiring for good in July 2004 in Lake Mary, FL. He always said once Florida sand got in your shoes you would always return.
Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and coaching both boys baseball (10 years) and girls fast pitch softball (12 years).
He was very active in his church life at Markham Woods Presbyterian Church in Lake Mary, FL where he served 6 years as a Deacon and 6 years on the Sessions as an Elder.
A Memorial Service will be held at Markham Woods Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 1:00 pm and at the Manchester Methodist Church in Manchester, Arkansas, at a later date, with inurnment to follow in the Atchley Cemetery in Dalark, Arkansas.
