Joseph F Leahy Jr

Joseph F Leahy Jr, 94 passed away Tuesday evening in Sanford Florida. Born in Newark NJ he
was a devout Catholic and served in many levels of leadership in parishes in East Orange and
Irvington NJ, Oxon Hill MD, Tucson AZ, Red Bank NJ and Sanford FL. He graduated from East Orange NJ High School in 1938, Fordham University in 1942 with a BS in Accounting. He entered Military Service in 1942 with the US Army Air Force and spent 2.5 years in Africa and Italy. He was employed by the Internal Revenue Service as an agent from 1945 until his retirement in 1977. He was a Past Commander and life member of Treasury Post 45 of the American Legion. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus 8077, and an active member of the Rootbeer and Checkers Club of Red Bank NJ. He was a Trustee and active member of Lakers Golf Club of Shadow Lake Village. He was an avid golfer and loved to fish, bowl, play bocce, poker and pinochle.
He was preceded in death by parents Joseph F Leahy Sr and Margret (Hopler), wives Irene(Walsh) and Marilyn (MacDonald), sister Margret Peggy (Zabelski), brother Willian Leahy, son Robert D. Leahy. He is survived by sons Richard J Leahy and wife Murla of St Joseph MO, and Joseph F Leahy III and wife Mary of Sanford FL, Step daughter Susan (Dolan) and husband Malcolm Kiniry of Potomac Maryland, step son Scott Dolan of Wall NJ. Grand children Erin (Leahy)and husband Jeremy Hunter of Savannah MO, Lindsey Leahy and Kelsey Leahy of Sanford FL, Molly Kiniry of London UK. Great grandchildren Katrin Hunter and Allisen Hunter of Savannah MO, sister Joan (Leahy) Ford of Jensen Beach FL and sister in law Helen Leahy of Verona NJ, plus a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services are under the direction of DeGusipe Funeral Home – 905 Laurel Avenue Sanford FL. Family will receive friends on Friday February 19 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm with a celebration of a Catholic Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church – 1020 Montgomery Rd Altamonte Springs FL Saturday February 20 at 10am.
