Joseph Lawrence Heinl
"Grampa Lardawg," as he was lovingly known by his grandchildren, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, at the age of 84. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose life was defined by his unwavering love for family, his integrity, and his loyalty.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, Larry was the son of J. Lawrence Heinl and Margaret Walper Turner. He graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1958 and from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
While at Penn Larry met his future wife, Linda Humes Johnson, on a blind date. They were married in Philadelphia 1965, and lived in Toledo, Ohio, where Larry joined the family nursery business.
His second career was in commercial real estate with ComReal of Miami, Florida. After retiring, Larry and Linda moved to Winter Park, Florida, to be closer to their two children, Deborah Heinl Johnson (m. to Todd) and Geoffrey William Heinl (m. to Traci), as well as their grandchildren: Elizabeth Johnson, Oliver Johnson, and Camden Heinl.
Larry's passions included watching college and NFL football, following the stock market, and reading mysteries. He and Linda spent many summers in Camden, Maine, and traveled extensively with close friends.
A family graveside celebration will be held in March. Memorial donations can be made to Culver Academies at 1300 Academy Road, Culver IN 46511 or to Unless U at 737 Chestnut Street, Vestavia, AL 35216.
