John S. Vecchio Sr. of Clearwater Fl, passed away on Jan 17, 2024.
He is survived by his son, John, son-in-law-Donovan Greaves, sister Lucille Diedrick, nephews and nieces Michelle McDonald, Maureen Goff, Billy D'Elia, Karen Nazzarano, Deb Daniels, David Diedrick, and Christopher Diedrick. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Gordon-Vecchio, parents Carmelo and Rose and siblings Daniel, Joseph, Vincent, Millie and Grace Vecchio.
John (Moose) was born in Port Chester, New York and also lived in Rye Brook, NY, until retiring and moving to Florida where he lived in Hollywood, Dunedin and Clearwater. John was best known as a favorite bartender while working at Sawpit and Marianacci restaurants, where he won many local awards for his famous homemade bloody mary mix.
He was a graduate of Port Chester High school and served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. John loved watching sports, doing puzzles and playing cards. He loved to tell many stories about the old days of Port Chester and knew the names of all the old drinking establishments. He had a ready smile, a quick wit and was always ready to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 1:00 pm., at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 750 San Salvador Drive, Dunedin, Fl, 34698.
The family is especially grateful to Harbor Chase of Palm Harbor and Suncoast Hospice for their care and compassion for John the last few months.
