John Thomas Griffin (Tommy) peacefully passed away on July 3, 2021, with his loving wife of 34 years at his side. He was 74.

He was predeceased by parents, Sion and Margaret Griffin, his son Johnny, sister Sue and brother Terry. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, son Brian (Geena), daughter Cathy (Fabio), three grandchildren, Lucas, Francesco and Alessandra, and his sister Nancy (Tim). He was blessed with many friends that he considered family.

Tommy was loved by many, he always had a kind word or helping hand for everyone. He met his wife Nancy in San Francisco, which held a special place in his heart. They moved to Sanford in 1995, as he always considered Sanford to be home.

He was an animal lover and saved the smallest of creatures, a bird, a squirrel and many kittens.

Tom was a Navy veteran and very proud to have served his country. He was a navigator on the USS Saratoga and had many fond memories of his time in the Mediterranean.

Tom's niece Danielle nicknamed him Turtle when she was 3 because she said, he was so slow. It stuck with him and over the years he collected turtles from around the world, as he loved to travel.

A private family ceremony will be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery on August 6 at 1:00pm.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 520 On The Water, 520 N Palmetto Ave, Sanford, FL 32771 on Monday, August 9 from 3:00-7:00pm
