John Philip "Phil" Sterner passed away at his Longwood, FL home surrounded by his family on Wed, March 17, 2021 due to congestive heart failure. He was the son of the late John Burnell Sterner and Mary Helen Huffnagle Sterner of Hanover, PA. Phil is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Jeanne E. (Thrush) Sterner and his four children: Stephen, Susan Fisher, Michael (Claudia) and Marianne Mancone (Andy), four grandchildren: Kate Doe, Jonathan Sterner, Laura Long and Anthony Mancone as well as two siblings: James Sterner, CO and Barbara Roth, Hanover, PA.
Phil was predeceased by two sisters: Rosalie Reed and Joan Foreman and one brother, John "Jack" Sterner. A private ceremony was held at DeGusipe Funeral Home in Sanford, FL.
Phil received his B.S. in Economics from Mt. St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD and was a Veteran of the Army-Air Corps in WWII as a Flight Engineer. He retired from Crown Central Petroleum in Baltimore, MD where he worked as a Regional Sales Manager. He resided in Severna Park, MD from 1960 until 1998 and then moved to Longwood, FL.
Phil and Jeanne were avid Baltimore Colts fans. He loved boating, crabs, remodeling his home but most importantly he loved sharing good food with his family and friends. Phil was generous and honest and often quoted "To thine own self be true" as part of his legacy.
In lieu of flowers, Phil would want you to give to those who may have hit hard times as that was the kind of man he was.
The family of John Philip "Phil" Sterner invites you to leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall created in his memory.
