John Edward Mazzella, 84, passed away on January 28, 2022, while under the care of
hospice in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is survived by his brother Timothy Mazzella of
Ohio.
John was born and raised in northeast Ohio where he continued to live throughout his
life. John was a U.S. Navy veteran where he served as an electrician aboard the USS
Antietam. After the Navy John continued to work as an electrician. With the aid of his
wife, Claire Hevener, they started an electrical contracting business in northeast Ohio.
Throughout the years he and Claire came to love the St. Petersburg area, buying a
vacation home and visiting when they could. They slowly became snowbirds, extending
their stays as schedules allowed. The business was quite successful allowing them to
sell it and retire as full time residents of St. Petersburg.
John enjoyed walking in the waterfront parks. Logging many miles a day with his faithful
companion dog, Vita. Once Vita passed he still enjoyed walking, but not as long or as
frequent.
Throughout their lives he and Claire traveled extensively, becoming world travelers.
They enjoyed cruises the most. Taking some times two a year, for as much as thirty
days at a time, to all parts of the world. They traveled to six continents and many of the
world's oceans and seas. They enjoyed the Pacific cruises and Christmas shopping in
London and Austria the most.
They were members of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and were active in the Florida
Orchestra Guild.
