Martin, John Woodruff, 72, a native and lifelong resident of St. Petersburg, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at the Bay Pines Veterans Hospital.
He attended Northward Elementary, Mirror Lake Junior High, St. Petersburg High School (1962), SPJC, USF and served in the Air Force from 1963 to 1968.
He retired after 34 years of service to the Veterans Administration Regional Office, Bay Pines, in Education Services.
He loved music, Jeeps, and meeting people. He is a past member of the Civitan Club where his favorite time of the year was when they sold fruitcakes.
John was active in his church at St. Paul's Catholic Church. He was a member of the Praise band, the CRHP community, and Knights of Columbus where he held several offices, including Faithful Navigator of the Frank J. Lewis Fourth Degree Assembly.
John is survived by his wife of 48 years; Cheryl, son; Michael (Kaelin); daughter; Kathleen, and grandchildren; Joey, Kai and Mila.
A grateful "Thank You" goes to the C. W. Bill Young Veterans Hospital staff who gave John so much care and love during his recent illnesses, especially Dr. Steimle, Dr. Malowzedah, Kathy, Laurie, Brian, Joanna, Beth, Ruth, Linda, Deb, Donnie, Barry, Alma, Noemie, Pat and Angie.
Services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016 at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Viewing will be at 11:30 am, Mass will be at 12:30. Interment will be at a later time at Bay Pines National Cemetery.
