John "Jack" Edward Maly, 86 years old, of Winter Park, Florida, passed away on May 16th 2017. He was born on April 28th, 1931 in Oak Park, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Lucille (Burns) and both of his siblings Robert (Norma) and Delores White (Richard).
Jack graduated from St. Mel High School in Chicago and played semi-pro football with the Portage Park Panthers. He enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War. He served on the Ammunition Ship AE-12 U.S.S. Wrangell, notably when it was used to transfer components of a nuclear weapon during that conflict.
He was honorably discharged and upon his return married Joan Marie Loftus, his wife of 59 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 60 years where as a supervisor he had significant influence in projects that included Kraft Corporate Headquarters, Swedish Covenant Hospital and Disney's American Adventure. He took great pride in his work and had a work ethic second to none.
He was an avid supporter of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and any sports teams on which his children or grandchildren participated. He was a man that made every effort to attend all of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Joan Marie (Loftus), sons Kevin Michael (Teresa), John Eugene (Sue), daughter Laura Marie Parkins and son Gerald "Jerry" Edward (Joanie).
Jack was grandfather to Shannon (Pete) Larsson, Kevin "Mike" Maly II, Brandon Maly, Emily and Emerson Parkins, Jordan Maly, Petty Officer Maly, Kelly (USN), and Jack Maly.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday May 30th at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 526 N. Park Avenue, Winter Park Fl 407.647.3392
