After gracing this earth for 85 years and 26 days, John Cook passed away at 4:37 pm on September 26th 2016. John fought a long and heroic battle against cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. John passed away at Atria Park of Lake Forest Assisted Lived Community.

John was born in Mount Carmel, IL on August 31, 1931, served in the Navy from July 19, 1950 to April 29, 1954. He was one of four children born to the late John and Elfreda Cook. He married Harriet Marie King on November 4, 1955. In 1964 John, Harriet and their four children moved from Bridgeport, Illinois to Orlando, Florida, eventually settling in Winter Park, Florida.

John leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years Harriet Cook, son, Dennis Cook, daughter, Jane Michael, son, Stephen Cook, and daughter, Cathy Cook, along with three grandchildren, Heather Thomas, Kristina Cook, and Jessica Cook and six great-grandchildren. John, sometimes called Jack, will always be remembered by his devoted brothers Richard and Donald Cook and his loving sister Marcia Linville along with countless other friends that were blessed to know him. John will always be remembered as a man who created a wonderful loving family.

John spent most of his life as salesman at Holler Chevrolet in Winter Park, Florida winning numerous awards for Outstanding Salesman of the Year. John never met a stranger. He touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at DeGusipe Funeral Home at 9001 N. Orlando Avenue, Maitland, Florida. The Visitation will be from 11:00am – 12:00pm. The funeral service will be from 12:00pm – 1:00pm with a Celebration of Life reception from 1:00pm – 3:00pm. Casual attire is appropriate.
