John Conley, 64 passed away peacefully on July 3, 2015, surrounded by loved ones. John was born in 1951 in Daytona Beach, Florida to Robert L. and Betty Lou Conley. Brother to Joseph, Robert L. Jr., Mary, and Patrick. There he attended Father Lopez High School, Class of '69. A talented athlete, John played football, basketball, golf, baseball, and track. He was named Volusia County Athlete of the year in 1969. John received a scholarship to play basketball at St. Leo College where he was also honored as the Outstanding Athlete of the year. John received his Bachelors Degree in Physical Education in 1973. Later, John went on to coach football and basketball at St. Joe's Academy in St. Augustine, FL. He became a faithful Seventh Day Adventist in 1977. During this time, he worked for Florida Hospital in the security department. A natural born hard worker, John enjoyed continuing his love for basketball as a High School basketball referee with the Central Florida Officials Association. Eventually, he spent a season refereeing the Harlem Globetrotters, traveling the United States and Eastern Europe. John spent 11 years working at Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando Florida where he held several positions before retiring in 2011. In 2014, John was faced with a heart attack and very soon after fought a short battle with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He is survived by his 3 children, Joyce, John Jr., Jordan and 1 grandchild Jai.
