John Joseph Casey, 82 of Sanford, Florida passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016. "Jack" was born March 3, 1933 in Bronx, New York to James Casey of Abbeyfeale, Limerick, Ireland and Mary Dwyer Casey of White Plains, NY. He is a 1950 graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School and enlisted in the US Navy after graduation. Jack served on the USS Orion, a Fulton-class submarine tender, during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge he enrolled at Villanova University under the GI Bill. He graduated Villanova in 1958 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Jack continued his education later in life with an MBA from Baruch College and a MS from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He was employed by Unisys Corporation for 35 years working on defense projects including the Trident Submarine, Polaris Missile and a Patrol Frigate for the Canadian Navy. Jack lived on Long Island, NY for 45 years before moving to Florida last year.
Jack is survived by his sister Mary Ellen Finn, his four children; Margaret Orr, John Casey, Kevin Casey and Cathleen Benedetto and his seven grandchildren; Kelly Orr, Brittany Orr, Ryan Orr, Dominick Benedetto, Gianna Benedetto, Brendan Casey and Bridget Casey. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Downing and two brothers, James and Michael. He will be interred at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY.
