Obituary

Joanna Ellen Anderson (Wilber), a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and nurse, went home to her heavenly father, Jesus Christ, on July 18, 2026.

Joanna was born in Buffalo, New York, to Warren Gardner Wilber and Loretta Sequerth Wilber on September 14, 1934. She met Axel while he was in medical school and she was completing her nursing degree at Buffalo General Hospital.

Their first son, Axel Anderson IV, was born in Buffalo. A year later, the family moved to Norfolk while Axel served in the Navy, where their second son, Michael, was born. She and Axel raised their two sons, who both went on to become doctors in Central Florida. They then relocated to Orlando in 1959, where Axel completed his residency and fellowship training in hematology-oncology. Joanna worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Florida Sanitarium, then worked with Axel to create Central Florida's first home healthcare agency.

Joanna was a devout Catholic with a strong faith, and she placed her faith and family above all else. She was an active tennis player and loved playing bridge with friends. She played the violin as a teenager and was also an excellent pianist. She owned Vie Provence, a French Country Shop in Winter Park, specializing in fine European fabrics, imported French furniture and home accessories on Morse Avenue for many years. She and Axel were married for 65 years.

Joanna was predeceased by her husband Axel in 2021, and her sister, Martha, in 2024.

She is survived by her children, Axel Anderson IV (Sharon) of Winter Park ,FL, and Michael Anderson (Temple) of Windermere, FL, her grandchildren, Axel Anderson V (Emily) of Brooklyn, NY, Tyler Anderson (Alice) of Winter Park, FL, Brendan Anderson of Winter Park, FL, Erika Beerbower (Nolan) of Maitland, FL, Warren Anderson (Alora) of Orlando, FL, Samantha Anderson of Brooklyn, NY, and Olivia Anderson of Gainesville, FL.

A private service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in memory of Joanna Anderson be made to: St. Margaret Mary Church, 526 N. Park Ave., Winter Park, FL “SMM School”.
