JoAnn Esther Schmid, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, gently departed this life on July 22, 2026, in Lake Mary, Florida, just days shy of her ninetieth birthday. Born on July 31, 1936, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, JoAnn’s journey was marked by grace, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to those whom she loved.
JoAnn’s life was defined by her ability to inspire warmth and compassion in all fortunate enough to know her. Her gentle wisdom and steadfast spirit emanated from the very beginning, nurtured by the vibrant community of her birthplace. As she journeyed through her years, JoAnn established a legacy rooted in devotion to family and the enduring values she held dear.
Among JoAnn’s most profound sources of joy were her family members, whose lives she so deeply touched. She is survived by her loving son, Greg Schmid, and his wife Colleen, who both cherished her strong guidance and loving counsel. Her daughter, Sandra McDanel, will always remember her mother’s boundless encouragement and support, a beacon through every challenge and triumph. JoAnn’s grandchildren, Nicholas Schmid and Jennifer Schmid, carry forward her legacy of kindness and resilience, inspired by her example and the many cherished moments spent together.
Though the tapestry of JoAnn’s life included both moments of resounding joy and quiet reflection, what remained constant was her openness to friendship and her concern for others. She approached every relationship with warmth and sincerity, forging connections that stood the test of time.
JoAnn’s faith accompanied her on her life’s path, guiding her decisions and nurturing her sense of peace. This abiding spiritual foundation will be honored at a Gathering of Friends on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM, both to be held at St Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 861 Maitland Avenue, Altamonte Springs, Florida. These gatherings will provide a chance for all who knew and loved her to celebrate the gifts of her life and to comfort one another with shared memories and gratitude.
With her quiet dignity and loving nature, JoAnn Esther Schmid leaves an indelible mark on those who grieve her loss and rejoice in her memory. The beauty of her spirit will remain eternally present in the hearts of those who continue her story.
