Joan K. Smyrk, 76, died peacefully June 8, 2014, surrounded by her family in Winter Park. Born July 4th, 1937 in New York, NY, she is pre-deceased by her parents John B. Kirk, Grace P. Kirk, her brother John B. Kirk, and her loving husband Donald W. Smyrk. Her education included The Mary Louis Academy (NY: HS); UCF (FTU) Bachelors Ed.; UCF Masters Ed.. Joan was a career educator with OCPS and retired from Lakemont Elementary in WP. She was an active parishioner at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and participated in volunteer & prayer groups with many of her friends.
Joan is survived by her son Donald J. Smyrk, his wife Lana and grandchildren Kaleigh and Will; her son Thomas J. Smyrk, his wife Arlene and grandchildren Victoria, Caroline, and Jackson; her daughter Laurie S. Geving and her husband Mark; her sister Kathy Urso, and many loving family members, friends and former students.
Funeral Mass will be held to celebrate her life on Friday June 13 at 10:00AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 526 N. Park Ave., Winter Park, FL 32789 (407-647-3392), followed by burial at Palm Cemetery, 1005 N. New York Ave., Winter Park, FL 32789
