Joan Mae Callahan, 82, of Apopka, Florida passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 being held within the arms of her loving daughter Joanie Polites, whom cared for her during her final years. Joan was born on February 1, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA.
Joan was preceded by her late husband Dan J. Callahan, her brother, Bobby Milligan, and her son, Jimmy Newmeyer; she was a loyal Sister to Gwynne Rever, and was a devoted mother to Joanie Polites (Norm Polites), Colleen Callahan-Perry (Matthew Perry), and Kerry Callahan; furthermore, Joan was a loving Grandmother to Jackie McCullough Marchitell, Maureen Renner, Brian Johns-Ardolina, Courtney Polites, Shelbey Polites, Kelleher Callahan, and Meaghan Callahan-Perry.
Joan grew up in Roxborough, PA where she worked at the family owned restaurants: The Green Parrot and The Willows. She completed her high school education at Roxborough High, where Joan also met Joseph Newmeyer, her first love and high school sweetheart, whom she later married. The marriage blessed Joan with her first two children: Jimmy and Joanie. In later years, Joan remarried Dan Callahan, which further blessed her with two more children: Colleen and Kerry.
Joan was also blessed with 5 Great-Grandchildren.
Joan took great pride in researching and studying politics and she was a proud patriot and saw it as her duty to stay knowledgeable about current events. She was a social butterfly that enjoyed sharing her knowledge with everyone and anyone she encountered. She was always ready for a warm cup of coffee and good conversation. Her favorite color was purple, the color of purity and tranquility. She was a dedicated Christian, and was eternally committed to building her relationship with God.
