Joan Bennett Clayton joyfully and gracefully closed her eyes on earth and opened them in heaven to spend eternity with Jesus on August 16, 2021.
She was born in Charleroi, PA in 1931 to Fred and Lena Bennett. Joan and her two sisters, Betty Jane Zorian (in heaven) and Laurel Lee Dennis were raised by their grandparents, James and Lula Bennett, and moved to Florida with them in the 30's.
She graduated from Winter Park High School in 1949 then attended Rollins where she served as President of PhiMu. On graduation day, Joan was married to Charles Winston Clayton, Jr. They were wed for fifty one years when he passed.
Joan wrote for the "Central Florida Sun" and "Winter Park Herald" and also 3 books: "Peas in the Pod", "Unto You" and "Letters".
She hosted a bible study at her home for over 40 years. Joan taught women's bible class at the Orlando Union Rescue Mission and served on the Board, including Chairman, since 1986. The rescue mission was her love.
She was committed to a Christian walk-playing hymns on the piano each morning and journaling every day since 1989. And sharing the love of Jesus to all she met. She made a difference.
Charles and her were blessed with four children: Charles III (Lisa), Clay (in heaven), Cole (Jae) and Hope (Bill Roll) and their grandchildren: Winston Clayton IV, Matthew Clayton, the Roll Children-Wesley, Maggie (Matthew), Billy (Bre), Allie (Sam), Emily and Catherine Clayton.
